ITVibes was proud to sponsor the annual Miles for Meals 5k Run and Walk this year, benefiting Meals on Wheels Montgomery. The charity race was held on February 17 out at the B-52 Brewery in Conroe, TX. Not only did we sponsor the event, several on our ITVibes team, including co-founder and President, Siva Yenneti, ran in the race as well. While most of us arrived early as recommended, (to get a parking spot near the brewery), we also had a couple of stragglers, but I won’t mention any names.
Perfect Weather for a Race
Early Saturday morning teased us with a little rain, but the weather for the duration of the day’s events couldn’t have been better. The temperature was lower than other years, staying just under 70 degrees. While it may have gotten a tad chilly waiting for the race to begin (mostly due to the wind), it made running (or walking!) the course comfortable and enjoyable.
All in all, 532 participants finished the race with times ranging from just over 17 ½ min to just under 1hr 15min. The course started and ended right there at the brewery with volunteers cheering us on and providing water at several stops along the way. Part of our group ran some or all of the race and another part enjoyed a bit more of a leisurely stride. Siva brought his two dogs, Nestle and Shipley, to enjoy the race with him. (Though they seemed more often interested in what was going on on the side of the road!) And as for me, well, let’s just say I finished my first 5k.
After the race, spirits were high as runners consumed craft beers from B-52 and amazing food from a few food trucks brought in by the brewery. Our group ordered delicious pizzas and enjoyed different types of beer, lemonade, and water. It was an all-around great event benefiting an extremely worthy cause, and, on behalf of ITVibes, we were all honored and extremely happy to be a part.
Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels Montgomery County works hard all year round helping older homebound individuals get the nutrition and social activity they need. Part of a vast organization serving nearly every community in the country, Meals on Wheels Montgomery County provides food and social interaction for 550 people every week. The fruit of their labor is the independence and dignity the individuals they serve are able to experience day to day. The Miles for Meals 5k Run and Walk is one of their annual fundraising events to ensure they’re able to continue impacting the lives of our community’s senior homebound population.
